NEBR Ltd · Company number 17525821 · Operator of the National Exotic Bird Register · Lifetime registration and continuity policy · Version 2026-10-25

Lifetime registration and continuity of the register

“Lifetime registration” means registration for the lifetime of the bird while NEBR Ltd continues to operate the NEBR register, or while a successor organisation continues that service under an agreed arrangement. It does not guarantee that the company or its services will operate indefinitely.

A bird’s permanent NEBR Bird ID remains associated with its registration history. Recording the bird’s death does not cause that number to be reassigned. Retention of historical records and associated personal information is subject to NEBR’s Privacy Notice and applicable law.

If NEBR plans to cease operating

NEBR Ltd will make all reasonable efforts to preserve the continuity of the register. This may include seeking a suitable purchaser or successor organisation able to maintain the records and provide appropriate safeguards.

Where reasonably practicable, we will notify registered account holders in advance using their recorded contact details. We will explain the proposed arrangements, their effect on existing registrations and the options available. We cannot guarantee that a suitable successor will be found.

Transfer to another operator

Before voluntarily transferring identifiable keeper records to a different organisation to continue the registration service, we will explain who the proposed operator is, which information would be transferred, how it would be used and protected, and any proposed changes to the service.

We will seek each affected account holder’s express agreement before transferring their identifiable keeper records under that arrangement. Failure to respond will not be treated as agreement.

If an account holder declines, or does not respond, their identifiable keeper records will not be included in that voluntary transfer. We will explain the consequences for their registration and how their remaining information will be handled. Disclosures required by law remain subject to applicable legal obligations.

Protection of records on closure

Personal information will continue to be protected during any closure or transition. Information retained to meet legal obligations or resolve outstanding matters will be restricted to those purposes. Information no longer required will be securely deleted or anonymised, as appropriate, in accordance with the Privacy Notice and applicable law.

Nothing in this section excludes or limits any statutory consumer rights.
